Guestbook

Hilltop was the perfect place to celebrate a special birthday with family. The house is spacious yet cosy and we immediately felt at home. There was room both to spread out and gather together. Hilltop is beautifully decorated and very well equipped. It is light and airy with views of the sea from upstairs. Thurlestone is a lovely village and there are fabulous coastal walks straight from the house. We spent a blustery week there in November and it was always lovely to return to the house after a bracing walk. Sunday roast at the Village Inn and an afternoon spa and Devon cream tea at Thurlestone Hotel are highly recommended! Victoria was so helpful, accommodating and welcoming. Thank you so much for a really memorable stay.

Hilary Taylor,

Thank you for the most amazing week at your stunning house.
We really couldn’t have asked for more for our family holiday. The house catered perfectly for us, and the garden was such a bonus for evening drinks, bbq’s and family games.
The village is an absolute gem, and such a great location for beautiful beaches for the children to body board, surf and kayak.
Many thanks, we will most definitely be booking again.

Emma Hutchinson ,

We had a wonderful restful few days at Hilltop. The house was well equipped and the bedrooms spacious and comfortable, kept beautifully warm by the extremely efficient heating and aga.
The garden was secure, quite magical for children.
Situated close to beaches, golf course, tennis courts with Salcombe only a few miles away. To be highly recommended at any time of the year.

Nigel & Janet Barker,

What a delightful autumn break we had at Hilltop. It is a really spacious, well equipped house with everything you need for your stay. The beds are seriously comfortable & the bathrooms & showers luxurious. There is plenty of room for all to sit at the dining room table & the kitchen equipment is modern & plentiful. The Aga is a wonderful luxury but even without it the house is exceptionally cosy. The garden is huge - we never explored it fully!
Thurlestone has lots to offer & is in a beautiful part of Devon. And having a shop & very good pub within walking distance of the house is perfect.
Highly recommended!

Nick & Jill Engert,

A lovely spot for an Autumn break. The house was warm and comfortable with plenty of space and it was nice to have a warm Aga. We had walks on the cliff tops and on the beach at Bantham and ate at the local pub which was excellent.
We hope we are able to come again."

Christine Montgomery,

We had, with some friends, the most lovely Autumn stay at Hilltop or perhaps early Winter if November counts as winter! The house is warm, love the Aga!, It is spacious and has everything anyone would need. The South Hams as the area is known is a well kept secret and although there has been some development in the area it is minimal and the ambiance is similar to how it was many, many years ago. We only took the cars out once to go shopping in Salcombe but other than that we walked everywhere over the cliffs, along the golf course, to dinner at the local pub the Village Inn which was excellent. Bantham beach with huge sand dunes and wonderful views, Burgh Island in the distance, with the Art Deco hotel on it where Agatha Christie visited to find inspiration to write and where Edward took Mrs Simpson with the Avon river estuary curling behind have to be one of the most special places to visit. In fact Anita Rani featured it last week in a programme about U.K. beaches. Always popular in Summer it is a wonderful place to visit in Autumn to Spring and has a great tennis and golf club too as facilities not to mention the very smart Thurlestone Hotel!

Tricia Todd,

Thanks for a fabulous week in Thurlestone. The house was warm, cosy and comfortable with everything you could wish for; good wifi, great kids games room, wonderful spacious garden, fab showers and bath, comfy beds and a bright conservatory. My mother was particularly happy with her downstairs annex bedroom with bathroom.
The local isolated beach - a short walk across the golf course was our preferred spot for an einvigorating morning swim. I don’t think you could find a more beautiful beach anywhere in the world! We entertained ourselves with long coastal and estuary walks, meals out at beautiful spots such as the beach café in Milton Sands and visits to a number of top class National Trust properties. Greenways house and impressive garden is the home of Agatha Christie, Overbeck garden on the Salcombe estuary is a must – the expansive location and riot of colours are quite extraordinary. Coleton Fishacre near Dartmouth is also a fun visit over the ferry – a 1920 house very well presented with another fab garden. We would love to return!

Rhiannon Barker and Neil McIndoe,

We had a super week at Hilltop. The house and garden were perfect for us and our three young children - it had everything we could want and more! Having a choice of beaches so nearby was a bonus and we enjoyed food at Rockbox, The Beach House and The Sloop Inn. Having a shop and pub in the village was an added bonus - we never made it to The Village Inn but have heard great reviews! The house is really easy to explore further afield with Kingsbridge a short drive away, and we enjoyed a day out in Salcombe.
We recommend the house wholeheartedly and Ben and Vicki were so helpful in the run-up to our holiday and during our stay.

Hannah and Nigel,

What a week we have had; Hilltop Thurlestone is everything you could possibly wish for on a Devon holiday. Lots of nearby activities suitable for all ages be it surfing, body or paddle boarding, walking, golf and tennis – all within walking distance. The food at the convivial local pub (Village Inn) was superb and the selection of pop up style eateries at Bantham were also very good. The house is spacious, cosy and superbly kitted out with everything you need, internet connection is strong, lovely hot showers and plenty of space for all the family; the Aga after a chilly afternoon in the surf was a big hit for me! Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Kirstie Donald,

What a wonderful week we have just spent at Hilltop in Thurlestone. The house is wonderful with lots of space for a large family. Very well equipped and the decor is beautiful. I didn't want to come home! The weather wasn't that great so we spent a lot of time at home playing games and enjoying the wonderful garden. We walked a lot too and being positioned so well between Thurlestone and Bantham beach there was something for everyone. I highly recommend body boarding at Bantham and stand up paddle boarding at South Milton just next to Thurlestone Beach and also at Kingsbridge. We will be booking to stay again. Thank you so much Ben and Vicky.
